My challenge to myself for this year was to pick a theme and follow it through to aid me in planning and scheduling my next batch for brew day.
The Evolution Series
This sounds more fancy than it really is, my intent is to take a handful of beers that were originally brewed in Britain, and then brew some of the successors, as they evolved over the years through the isles, on the continent, and as they came to the New World. The Evolution Series. I will try to brew them with some form of chronology, but things could change on a whim. I can assure you, they will not be done sequentially. Some examples
- The British British Brown Ale. It came to the New World, it was brewed a little stronger, with North American ingredients, then some clever brewer cranked up the hops to make it a Brown IPA.
- The humble Porter. It became a stout porter, or just a stout, then took on many variations within the British Isles, then both the porter and stout made its way to the continent, and over to the New World with new variations.
- The English IPA, it started life, as the name implies in England, and as it moved to the New World, took on different colours, ingredients, and increased in alcohol content.
- A Strong Bitter evolves into a Strong British Ale, when made even stronger was called a barleywine, and it took on more variation when it came to the new world.
The list will be update as a new beer in the series has been brewed.
